How AI Helps Me Write Psychological Evaluations With 50% Less Time & Energy

Revolutionizing Reports: My Journey from ChatGPT to Myclinicalwriter.ai

About a year ago a friend of mine sent me a text and he said, “Hey, try this.” It was a link for ChatGPT. I'd already heard of it but didn't think much about it. I wasn't really sure how it could help me other than being some really cool way to look up information. But, I was really wrong. Eventually one day I was sitting around and pulled up that text and clicked on the link to ChatGPT. I thought I'd give it a try. I asked it to give me a list of interventions for a specific disorder that I had concluded with in a diagnostic evaluation. I wanted to offer the client some useful evidence based interventions. ChatGPT delivered. It gave me an accurate and well written summary of the current interventions for that disorder. Then, when I asked for the summary again with references, it produced references. I was sold!

The Hunt for the Perfect AI Writer

I’ve always liked technology so my head started spinning about the possibilities. The next thing I wondered was if ChatGPT could generate a useful draft of a psychological evaluation report; which would be similar to me having a second brain. What psychologist couldn’t use a second brain now and then? Since ChatGPT is not formatted for writing psychological evaluations, I searched Google and found a number of apps but the apps I could find used AI to write therapy notes. Don’t get me wrong, the apps were really good. It was almost scary watching the generative AI fill up the page with such accurate writing.

The Challenge of Current AI Solutions

But there was a problem. None of those apps were designed to write evaluation reports so they were not the prescription for what I needed. Since I am a psychologist specializing in doing evaluations, I write a lot of reports. I need an app that can essentially take raw information and form a first draft of a report for me. It wasn't out there so I found myself using other apps and trying to retrofit them to my use. That proved to be cumbersome and frustrating.

Introducing Myclinicalwriter.ai

Then the opportunity came to co-develop a customizable generative AI mental health report and progress note writing app. That app grew up to be Myclinicalwrter.ai. It was created by an engineer and I teaming up. What's different about this app is it allows the user to fully customize use to any clinical need. Clinicians can create any type of progress notes. Evaluation specialists can create any type of evaluation report template and allow the generative AI to fill it in simply from using the raw notes that are entered. It has been used for neuropsychological evaluations, forensic evaluations, psychosocial evaluations, school psychology evaluations, immigration evaluations, etc. The user types in the template sections they want to use and the AI does the rest. The flexibility and customization makes the applications unlimited.

How does it work?

My preferred method is to conduct my session in the normal manner typing my notes into the computer as I have done all of my career, except during the first year of my internship when I was handwriting my notes during interviews. Oh, the horror of it !  Then, I paste those typed notes into the “Smart Text” feature. This can also be accomplished by uploading notes in a doc x format. I select one of the templates I’ve created (or a preloaded template that comes with the subscription) and then click the button to generate my report. Within seconds, the app has generated an accurate first draft in the exact format I specified. I simply edit to my liking and add any graphs, tables, or charts that I want to include. Done ! The report is finished instead of taking a place in line in a wildly growing stack of reports waiting to be written.

Prioritizing Privacy and Security

As another option, the app can also be used to listen to an interview or session and then it will generate notes or a report in the form the user specifies. But, I’m kind of old school so I take my own notes instead of letting the app listen. As a psychologist, I know you are concerned about HIPAA and so are we as the developers. This app complies with HIPAA standards and you can see the technical specs on the website. We also have a BAA for our subscribers. Another great feature is users have the control to delete any notes immediately.

Experience the Revolution

The only way to really appreciate this is to try it. It has cut my time for writing reports in half and cut my fatigue level down by 50%. I have energy to move on to billing or to see another client. I can tell you this, but seeing is believing. That’s why you can try it for free. You can subscribe for one month free with full features and no limit on the number of reports. That’s how much we believe in what this app can do for you. If you don’t like it for any reason, just stop your free trial. We don’t even ask for a credit card.
